Curriculum of Liu Xiaobing
Liu Xiaobing (Boris), male, associate professor at Law School of China University of Politics Science and Law (CUPL), Chief Director of Research Centre on Chinese Legal Reform and practitioner in Beijing H&H (Han Hua) law firm.
The following are the details of my Learning or employment experiences:
1988-1991. I studied in Hengyang Normal College; the major was English Literature.
1991-1996. After graduation from college, I served as a teacher in the local high school from 1991 to 1996, teaching the lesson of English grammar for more than four years.
1996-1999. I studied in Beijing Normal University; the major was Intellectual Property theory.
1999-2003. After graduation from university, I was employed by China University of Political Science and Law from 1999 to 2003, teaching theory of philosophy.
2003-2006. I studied in China University of Political Science and Law, the major was Criminal Procedure.
Later when I received Ph.D. from CUPL, I began the career of a legal professor at Law School of China University of Political Science and Law, engaged mainly in clinical legal education and experiential legal teaching.
In the field of clinical legal education, I am supervisor both of Legal Clinic of Criminal Law and Legal Clinic of Aged People’s Rights. Every week I teach the students how to interview with the clients, how to give them Legal advice and how to operate negotiation, mediation and arbitration. So far, we have completed more than 10 court representations and participated into three criminal cases.
In the field of experiential legal teaching, I have opened three relative courses, namely Court Debate Skills, Legal Practitioners’ Practice and Legal Profession Ethics. As a result of success, my students and I were invited to make shows on the International Exchange Conference on Experiential Education in Beijing last December and the Legal Clinic Experience Sharing Conference on Chinese Legal Clinic Education in Xi’an last March.
I majored in criminal procedure when I studied for Ph.D. and have deep interest in criminal law, constitutional law, human rights and anti-discrimination. As for the field of criminal procedure, I have made a report on the reformation of Chinese criminal procedure system, which was published in the Journal of Procedural Law Research in 2006. As for the field of human rights, I have written a research report on the humanized reformation of juvenile legal treaty, which was published in the Journal of Social Science in 2004.
In 2008, I translated into Chinese a foreign article The Institutionalization of Restorative Justice in Canada, which was written by a Canadian professor Kent Roach. This work was published in the Journal of National Prosecutors College on August 10, 2009 (Page 3 in Section 4).
In July, 2009, after nearly 5 years’ of revising, I have my monograph Axiology of Criminal Procedure published. This book, with more than 400 thousand words, mainly discusses about the value of criminal procedure and explores deeply into the necessary reform problems in that field.

As for my English language competence, I took English Teaching as the major during my college times and received a State-issued Diploma. After graduation from college, I became an English teacher in the local high school and taught there for several years till I decided to study law.
In the year of 2007, I participated in the workshop of Legal Advocacy Education, which was held jointly by two American law schools, the Pacific Mc George School of Law and American University Washington College of Law.
In the year of 2008, I passed all the examinations which led to my completion of the course on the Advanced English Training Program at the Department for Training Scholars Going to Study Abroad, which was affiliated to the National Ministry of Education.
