The Teaching and Research Section for Legal Practice Studies

The CUPL offered a curriculum with respect to the administrative clinic in June 2004, and in order to further improve the teaching in this regard, the CUPL Law School established the Teaching and Research Section for Practice Studies in 2007. The Section was later renamed the Teaching and Research Section for Legal Practice Studies. The Section, which is oriented towards legal practice aims to enhance students’ practical skills. All members of the section have doctoral degrees, and as all of them are part-time lawyers, their rich experiences help students sharpen skills as lawyers in the future.

The Section now has four associate professors.

The Administrative Law Clinic under the Section has made its name in China for legal education. Currently the Section provides modules to undergraduate students as follows: Legal Writing, Trial Advocacy, Legal Practice, Non-litigation: Practice of Law and Administrative Litigation Review. The Section also provides postgraduate modules, including Legal Negotiation, Legal Writing and Litigation, Notarial Practice, and Frontier of Legal Practice etc.

The Section has published Education of Legal Practice (Five Volumes) and Legal Clinic (Renmin University Press). The Section has also been given a Beijing Education Pioneering Award and the CUPL’s Excellent Teaching Award. Professor Shenjian Xu as the former head of the Section is also the vice president of the Legal Education Association under the China Law Society (LEA), and the vice president of The Moot Court Committee under the LEA.
